The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Friday, handed over 6,000 bags of 50kg rice and two tons of vegetable oil to the Lagos State Government as an additional palliative support for onward help and distribution to the poor and vulnerable in cushioning the effects of lockdown against Coronavirus, COVID19 in the state.

Handing over the commodities to Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal, who received them on behalf of the state, at the Nigeria Customs Service office in Ikeja was the nation’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, when she visited Lagos for the purpose of delivering the President Muhammadu Buhari’s gesture to the people of Lagos State.

The DEFENDER reports that the rice and vegetable oil were coming, again, as second of such consideration in two weeks after N15 billion grant was approved and released by President Buhari to the governor of the state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to fight Coronavirus and handle other related issues that make victory possible in the Nigeria’s worst hit state.

Lagos remains the epicenter of Coronavirus in Nigeria and as the number of cases keep rising steadily, although without necessary need for great concern nationally, government is doing all to cushion the effect of locking down the state to curtail its spread.

Minister Sadiya Farouq had earlier visited Governor Sanwo-Olu at the State House Marina where she reeled out her Ministry’s responsibilities in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Responding, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the food items would go into the strategic COVID-19 response which he said was in its second phase.
