“A musical group by name the Beatles compared themselves to Jesus millions of persons reject and unfollowed them in USA and all over the world. Today Sahara Reporters is comparing Prophet Muhammad to Sunday Igboho. Please millions of faithfuls of God both Muslims and Christians all over the world should show a solidarity and in one accord support by unfollow and block Sahara reports,” Ndubuisi said.
The ‘Say No to Sahara Reporters’ and #unfollowsahararepotersnow campaigns that started Tuesday following the online newspaper’s report considered to be deliberate collaboration with Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, to deliberate blaspheme the the symbol of Islamic faith, Prophet Muhammad (SAW), have since kicked off.
In matter of few hours, over 40 thousand people have Unfollowed the Sahara Reporters on its social media platforms and still counting.
Widespread condemnations had been generated following the publication on Tuesday with mainly some notable online newspapers awash with news reports and comments by various Islamic groups and individuals calling for boycott of Sahara Reporters online publications while some others asking both medium and Afenifere it “collaborated” with to compare tribalist ‘warrior’ and idol worshipping Sunday Igboho to Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Realizing the outrage, Sahara Reporters deleted the publication from its Facebook social media handle and put an there an apology note but the apology, which is considered as the usual after effect, would mean nothing to the already sparked angers.
“When ChannelsTV and AriseTV broadcast their fake news of Lekki Toll Gate massacre in October 2020 and later apologised, did their apologies stop the killing of innocent Nigerians and destruction of public infrastructures as it were? So, what is the essence of apology that Sahara Reporters offered after its blaspheme has already gone abroad?” A particular Nigerian Muslim (names withheld) asked.
Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) in a statement had demanded apology from Afenifere but one of the individuals would not fancy the idea of apology because, he said, it solves no problem as the enemies of Islam had already achieved their aim.
He said: “What is the benefit of the apology? Anybody who abused you while drunk had the mind of abusing you. Rejoinder will never meet up with headlines. They have done their worst.
“Apology is not enough. Sowore was looking for an opportunity to denigrate Islam and Muslim whom he hold in high contempt, this provided a golden opportunity. One should be remorseful and apologetic but there is none.”
Buhari Philimiyan Simon in his post had also shown solidarity to Muslims in the matter saying, he is a Christian and yet, condemned the attitude of Sahara Reporters abd Afenifere blaspheming Prophet Muhammad.
Simon called on Nigerians home and abroad to take the #unfollowsaharareporters campaign seriously and boycott its pages and website.
Ndubuisi E Kalu in his own reaction said: “Let God be God!
