Breaking News: VoN’s director, Akinreti, sparks jubilation in Lagos Journalism community, as he wins election as state NUJ chairman

The Voice of Nigeria (VoN) is in the news again as its Assistant Director News, Lagos Bureau, Dr. Qasim Akinreti, was declared, on Friday, as the duly elected Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos State Chapter.

He emerged winner of a keenly contested election for the state NUJ’s top job, held at the Lagos State Television (LTV), Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Dr. Akinreti, who polled 288 votes to defeat his opponent, Adeleye Ajayi of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the triumph is for all Lagos journalists.

“This is a new dawn, beginning of a new era, the victory isn’t for only me but for every one of us”, he stated.

He thanked his campaign organization team, Akinreti Mandate, for a job well done.

In the meantime, congratulatory messages have continued to pour across to the new Lagos NUJ leader, whose aspiration to lead the pen-wielders in the state was not without being faced with sentiment-based challenges.

Hiss strong support base including Vanguard and the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) jave wished him a successful tenure.

Also, The DEFENDER, through its General Editor, Mr. Kemi Kasumu, congratulating Akinreti, urged him to drive a policy which will comfortably incorporate media outfits mainly published online into the mainstream of Lagos journalism community.

This, Kasumu said, was to endure that overshooting of runway that is apparent in hiding behind internet by some quack journalists to spread fake news would be brought under check with, Lagos being the pace setter.

According to him, The DEFENDER has promised Akinreti to comport itself as a respectable online medium of high integrity run within the ambit of the ethics of the profession to honour of all.
