According to reports from the scene, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, December 24, 2025, during the Maghrib congregational prayer.

Witnesses said the attackers allegedly infiltrated the mosque and detonated an explosive while prayers were ongoing.

“The explosion happened during the first raka’at of the Maghrib prayer. Many people were killed, and others sustained injuries,” a survivor told reporters.

Security sources and residents described the incident as shocking and distressing, particularly because it targeted worshippers gathered for prayer.

Community members condemned the attack, stressing that such acts have no basis in Islam and contradict the religion’s teachings especially when the claimants are being clearly exposed by their killing of Muslims who are devoted to the worship of Allah whose name they slogan in their killings.

As of the time of filing this report, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on the Boko Haram insurgent group, which has carried out numerous suicide bombings and attacks in Borno State and other parts of northeastern Nigeria in recent months.

The DEFENDER reports that emergency responders and security personnel were deployed to the area, while authorities began investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the explosion and the number of casualties.

Further details are expected as officials continue their assessment of the situation.
