BREAKING: Kano Assembly dissolves 4 Emirates created by Ganduje
By KEMI KASUMU
Kano State House of Assembly has passed a Bill, which repeals the four Emirates created by former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
This happened as The DEFENDER learnt that the state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, will sign the Bill into law any moment from now.
According to reports on Thursday May 22, 2024, the Assembly also repealed the Emirates Law during its plenary session amidst tight security.
It is understood that the legislative arm is now expected to submit the decision to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for assent.
There are speculations that the dissolution of the four Emirates was done to pave the way for the return of deposed 14th Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Already, the current Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayeo, and his Bichi counterpart, Nasiru Ado Bayero, have travelled out of the state.
Recall that Alhaji Sanusi II was dethroned in March 2020 by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, following a protracted political dispute.
Mr Ganduje had then, ahead of Sanusi’s deposition, created the four new Emirates to reduce the influence of the once powerful Kano Emirate and then announced his sack later.
