BREAKING: Chief Imam of Jos, Sheikh Abubakar, dies at 80

Death has been announced of a vital component of the Nigerian Muslim Community and Chief Imam of Jos, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar.
He passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in Jos, capital of the Nigeria’s North Central state of Plateau, afternoon of Thursday July 11, 2024, according to his son, Bashir Lawal Adam, who confirmed the sad event of the loss of Islamic cleric.
Bashir Adam said the late Chief Imam, who was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015, died at the age of 80 after having spent nine years leading the most vital Muslim Community the Plateau State.
He was survived by three wives, 14 children and many grandchildren.
In the meantime, the Plateau State Publicity Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Mallam Sani Mudi, has described the cleric’s demise as a loss to the entire Muslim community in Plateau State.
Mudi, in a statement, said, “The late Sheikh Adam was an erudite scholar, Islamic jurist, renowned Qur’anic scholar, and a respected leader of the Muslim community. He was appointed Deputy Chief Imam in 2009 and later Chief Imam in 2015.”
The JNI’s state spokesman, while beseeching Allah’s forgiveness, blessings and pardon for the departed soul of his servant, further said in the statement, reportedly, that the late Imam would be buried tomorrow morning of Friday July 12, 2024, after funeral prayers.
