BOAT MISHAP: Zamfara govt condoles Gumi people, donates N20m to affected families

The zamfara State government has donated N20 million to families of victims affected by the recent boat mishap that claimed 10 lives in the Gumi Local Government Area of the state..
This was announced by the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni, when he paid condolence visit to the families of the victims at the Emir’s palace in Gumi town on Tuesday September 17, 2024.
He said the state government was saddened by the unfortunate incident and called on families of the victims to take irreparable loss as it an act of God.
The deputy governor stated that the state government would consider upgrading the water transport by way of purchasing modern boat to be used in transporting people across water ways in the state.
He prayed for the repose of souls of the deceased and for Allah to grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
In his response the Emir of Gumi, Justice Lawal Hassan Gumi (Rtd), said there was misconception as for the number of casualties.
He said there were 20 people in the boat; 10 died while seven sustained varied degree of injuries and three people were still missing.
The Emir assured that the donation would be handed over to the affected families.
