Backing the wrong horse! – Lim Tean

Iran is no longer merely a regional actor. It is becoming one of the world’s decisive geopolitical powers alongside America, Russia and China. Only fools still fail to see this.

The bigger Arab loser of the emerging emerging US-Iran peace deal will be the UAE.

The peace deal marks the birth of a new Middle Eastern order. After decades of sanctions, threats, covert warfare and military pressure, Iran has not collapsed. It has prevailed.

The humiliating American concessions reportedly being discussed- unfreezing Iranian assets, American military retrenchment from the region, and acceptance of Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, can only be seen across the world as the greatest military defeat for America in its history.

Iran is no longer merely a regional actor. It is becoming one of the world’s decisive geopolitical powers alongside America, Russia and China. Only fools still fail to see this.

For years, the UAE aligned itself ever more closely with Washington and Israel during the confrontation with Iran, believing American military supremacy would permanently contain Tehran. It egged on the Americans to attack and finish off Iran. It openly declared war on Iran during the recent conflict. It became an agent and stooge of Israel, openly accepting Israeli air-defence, and receiving a secret visit from the war criminal Netanyahu during the conflict.

There will be severe repercussions for the UAE in the coming years, for its anti-Iran political stance.

Small commercial states survive on stability, confidence and the perception of security. But investors, markets and global capital become nervous when the regional order starts breaking apart. The gleaming towers of Dubai will shine no more.

The old Gulf order- protected by overwhelming American power, has ended.

Now a new Middle East is emerging- and the UAE will discover that betting everything on American power was the greatest strategic blunder in its modern history.
