Avoid gratification, CJN warns judges
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen has warned judges to avoid gratification.
Onnoghen stated this while declaring open the 2017 workshop on deposit insurance law and practice in Nigeria for Judges, held at the National Judicial Institute (NJI).
He said various aspects of misconduct including accepting gratification, when delicate matters touching on deposits and investors funds were before judges must be avoided.
“Where judges indulge in such acts, the repercussion would be that of placing the wealth of the nation out of reach from regulation and inviting financial collapse of the entire economy,” he said.
He said although judges were subject to human frailty as all other members of society, they must expect that their conduct would be subjected to constant public scrutiny.
The Managing Director of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, said the theme of the workshop was ‘the challenges to deposit insurance law and practice’.
