Attempt to Overthrow Acting President: Osinbajo has power to arrest Saraki, Dogara, Jibrin declares

*Asks Acting President to send strong signal of check to perpetrators

*Says Osinbajo’s stance on Magu saved anti-corruption fight

*Jubrin has spoken the minds of Nigerians – Respondent

“The Ag President must with immediate effect order the arrest and prosecution of some politicians that are making treasonable statements.  Those promoting such reckless statements must know Acting President has powers to arrest anybody be you no. 3, 4 or 10 citizen if found wanting.  The constitution is explicitly clear and any attempt to subvert it must be dealt with decisively by the Acting President and Commander-in-Chief.”

Suspended member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, has declared that the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has the power to order the arrest of Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Jibrin was reacting to news that the Senate tried unsuccessfully to declare Saraki as Acting President.

In a series of tweets posted on Friday, the lawmaker called on Osinbajo to “send a strong signal that under his watch nobody can push Nigeria towards anarchy.”

He also backed the Acting President’s stance on Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Ibrahim Magu and claims it “saved the fight against corruption.”

Jibrin wrote: “Ag President Yemi Osinbajo saved the fight against corruption by standing firmly with Magu. We must all support him to sustain the momentum.

“Magu is upright and has shown rare courage in the face of blackmail and intimidation. He must go ahead and continue his job ruthlessly.

“The Ag President must with immediate effect order the arrest and prosecution of some politicians that are making treasonable statements.

“Those promoting such reckless statements must know Acting President has powers to arrest anybody be you no. 3, 4 or 10 citizen if found wanting.

“The constitution is explicitly clear and any attempt to subvert it must be dealt with decisively by the Acting President and Commander-in-Chief.

“While we pray for quick recovery and return of PMB, Ag P must send a strong signal that under his watch nobody can push Nig towards anarchy!” he tweeted.

In the meantime, one of respondents to The DEFENDER has said that the Honourable Abdulmumin’s declaration is only confirming the mindset of Nigerian watchers of event since the attempt to overthrow Acting President Yemi Osinbajo was made on Tuesday before the eyes of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He however sent a strong warning to the Acting President to realise that there was a way to deal coupists saying what happened on the floor of Senate on the said day was coup and the perpetrators must be arrested, adding that, “If you don’t act now, Your Excellency, then it means you don’t love Nigerians because Nigerians can only get tired of this government only when they know that leaders of the government have no action against recklessness and rascality as our Senators have continued to display believing they are above the law since the take off of this dispensation from mid-2015.”
