AT LAST! Kwankwaso speaks on Kano Emirate, Ado Bayero, says “We did what is right”

By KEMI KASUMU

“We are not fools, we have done what is right and that is the position of majority of Kano people. And even the four other Emirates emirs have moved out from their palaces except Ado Bayero.”

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has made the accusation that, with the exception of the oousted Emir, Ado Bayero, Emirs from the other four Emirates have left their palaces.

He spoke highly of Bayero, praising him as an admiral commander in Kano.

But Kwankwaso bemoaned the fact that once Emir Sanusi was reinstated, some people had pushed Ado Bayero to go back to Kano, making him feel needlessly embarrassed.

He restated the universally accepted truth that the state government has exclusive authority over chieftaincy matters. The bulk of Kano’s population, he said, supports the choice to keep one Emirate.

In an interview with Arise TV, Kwankwaso highlighted the historical context, pointing out that prominent figures like Aminu Kano had advocated for the undivided status of the Kano Emirate since the First Republic.

He clarified that the majority of Kano’s people had decided on this belief, so it was not made on the fly.

Again expressing his admiration for Ado Bayero, he brought up the fact that the other emirs had abandoned their palaces to rally behind a single emir.

It is common knowledge in the country, but Kwankwaso reiterated that chieftaincy concerns remain the purview of the state government.

In his own words, he remarked, “We have history over the years right from the First Republic when our leaders like Aminu Kano were leading the group. And our position now is our belief that Kano Emirate should not be divided. It’s our belief and it’s not something that we just wake up one day and way yes, it’s going to be one Emirate.

“We are not fools, we have done what is right and that is the position of majority of Kano people. And even the four other Emirates emirs have moved out from their palaces except Ado Bayero. We respect him and he’s a good man as far as I’m concerned.

“But some people have decided to literally force him to go back to Kano to face unnecessary embarrassment. Everybody knows in this country that Chieftaincy affairs are purely the responsibility of the State government. You don’t have to be a lawyer to know that.”
