As Governor of Sokoto State,  Mr. Ahmad Aliyu, goes ahead with his public hearing on amendment of local government laws to whittle the powers of Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, to pave the way for his subsequent deposition, the official olumbrella body for Muslims in South West Nigeria, umbrella Muslims in Yoruba Land, the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), has only condemned the alleged plan by the governor but also insist on standing in solidarity with the Sultan and his Sultanate Council.

MUSWEN made these declarations in a statement signed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, even as it described the Sultan as a unifying leader who has built bridges across cultural and religious divides.

Since his ascension to the throne, inter-religious conflicts have reduced by over 90 percent, earning him the respect and admiration of Christians and Muslims alike, it added.

The MUSWEN, whose President is Deputy President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) South, urged the Sokoto State Government to resolve any differences with the Sultan’s office amicably, without bringing the revered leader into disrepute.

The statement by MUSWEN comes amid rumours of a plot to remove the Sultan from his position. While the organization believes the information is mere rumour-mongering, it has vowed to stand by the Sultan in the face of any adversity.

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria’s stance reflects the widespread respect and admiration for Sultan Abubakar’s leadership and his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

The statement read, “The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), the official umbrella body for all Muslims in the South West  of Nigeria, condemns the alleged plot to depose as Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, the President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and national leader of all Muslims in Nigeria.

“We believe that the information making the rounds in that regard is in the realm of rumour-mongering.

“For the records, be it known that, we Yoruba Muslims hold Sultan Abubakar in the highest esteem. He has been a bridge-builder, successfully unifying the 150 million Nigerian Muslims from different cultural backgrounds

“Beyond unifying Muslims in Nigeria, Sultan Abubakar also enjoys the friendship and honour of Christians, establishing unprecedented rapport with the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria.

“Since his ascension to the throne as Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the nation has recorded over 90% reduction in inter-religious conflicts.

For these reasons and others, Sultan Abubakar has earned the love of all as a proponent and actualizer of harmonious and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of all tribes and faiths.

“If there are differences between Sokoto State Government and the office of The Sultan, such differences should be amicably resolved, rather than bringing the person of our revered national leader, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, into disrepute.

“We still believe the alleged plot is a mere rumour. If it is true however, we hereby express unequivocally our unflinching reverence and absolute support for our leader, The President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

“Yoruba Muslims absolutely queue and stand solidly behind our revered leader, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and President-General,Nigerian Suoreme Council for Islamic Affairs.”

A source in Abuja confined in The DEFENDER in Abuja Monday July 1, 2024 that “if it is Aliyu Wamakko that is pushing Governor Ahmad Aliyu as earlier exposed by Abanikanda Olumoro who wrote from United Kibgdom, they will not stop their plan but Sultan will laugh last.”
