APC lawmakers win NASS plenary votes, clearing way for Buhari’s 2019 budget presentation

Against threat of boycott by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakersof the National Assembly of 2019 budget proposal presentation by PresidentMuhammadu Buhari, the coast is now clear as the President will present thedocuments Wednesday December 19, 2018.

This followed the outcome of plenary sessions held on Tuesday at the Senate and House of Representatives despite amidst tight security, earlier ordered by Senate President Bukola Saraki, asking the police and Department of State Service (DSS) to ensure security for Tuesday’s plenary sessions to hole without hindrance.

The DEFENDER reports that workers of the National Assembly are currently on a four-day warning strike over the inability of the leadership of the Assembly to pay their salaries and allowances.

The striking workers had shutdown activities at the legislative complex although with promise that they would not disrupt President’s presentation of the budget proposal when he comes on Wednesday.

At Tuesday’s plenary sessions, lawmakers at the Upper Chamber adopted a motion to sit in a joint session with the House of Representatives on Wednesday, for the presentation of the 2019 Appropriation Bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, following a vote administrated by Senate President Bukola Saraki in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) senators majored.

A similar motion was passed by the lawmakers at the Lower Chamber where the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, presided over the plenary.

The House passed the motion despite a challenge from some PDP members when the matter was put to a vote.

Meanwhile, Senate President Bukola Saraki presided over the plenary attended by the Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan and other senators.
