In a report by The DEFENDER on Wednesday, the husband, Ahmed Jubril, who was barely recovering from the trauma on Tuesday since the shock hit him on Sunday, had said his hope was to take the corpses to his Ganye Local Government Area home of Adamawa State for burial since the Arewa cemetery they use in the South East community was filled up.

But the Leader of the Hausa Community in Orunba South, Anambra State, Sarki Kabiru Bakari, who had confirmed that the corpses for which N30,000 was demanded for their release from mortuary not only said they were later recovered Tuesday evening but, also that there would be no need to take them home in the North for the that of the corpses not being taken care of by mortuary attendants.

“We have now decided to bury them in Awka Wednesday (yesterday). The mortuary attendant did not treat the corpses, no preservation measure was done; hence we cannot travel with the corpses as they have already started decomposing. We have no other option than to take them to Awka and bury them there,” he had said according to The DEFENDER report of Wednesday.

The corpses were buried Wednesday in Awka, Anambra State as earlier disclosed by the Sarki Hausa of Orunba South, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Jubril had given the name of his wife as Harira Jibril, 32, and those of the four children as Fatima, 9; Khadijah, 7; Hadiza, 5; and Zaituna, 2.

He said, “They were coming back home after she visited her sister who was living in the nearby town. She and the four children were all wearing hijabs; that was why the gunmen targeted them.”
