SOS ALERT: IGP should stop Fayose’s thugs now, MURIC cries out
“We are all waiting to see how the Inspector-General of Police will handle this shameful impunity that Ayodele Fayose is hiding under the privileges of immunity to perpetrate against law abiding, quality contributors of greatness that can grow Ekiti State socially and economically. In a sane society, Fayose should be gone before now. But we are waiting to see how the Federal Government, the National Assembly and the Chief Justice of Nigeria will handle this impunity if they truly love Nigeria to move forward. I am forced to ask: who in Nigeria is as powerful as this governor? To prove me wrong, no arm of government should sit down and wait for formal complaint before taking action NOW!” The respondent said.
An alert has been sent through the press calling on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Kpokun to take immediate action over thugs believed to be working on draconian orders of Governor Ayodele Fayose, who are said to be currently destroying the filling stations owned by an Ekiti businessman, Alhaji Suleiman Akinbami.
Akinbami is a person that Governor Fayose has opened tagged an enemy he would never forgive.
In a statement Tuesday morning, copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER, Director of Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Prof. Ishaq Akintola, said, “The thugs are believed to be acting on the orders of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose. The governor was alleged to have threatened to deal with Alhaji Akinbami yesterday during his media chat. He reportedly complained that he could not tolerate Alhaji Akinbami’s business ventures because the latter is from Osun State and not an indigene.”
It will be recalled that the governor had threatened to bulldoze the business man’s petrol stations a few weeks ago on an excuse hinged on mosques inside the filling stations.
Akintola said, “The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) strongly condemns this impunity. We call on the Inspector General of Police to quickly intervene and restore law and order. We demand adequate protection for Alhaji Akinbami and his properties in the state.”
The rights group accused Governor Fayose of victimizing Alhaji Akinbami for being a practicing and committed Muslim.
“Akinbami is not really Fayose’s target. It is Islam. Fayose has demonstrated his hatred for Muslims in several ways before. He insisted that he would bulldoze the mosques inside the petrol stations if they were used for Jum’ah prayers. In obedience to the draconian order, the owner, Alhaji Akinbami, stopped worshippers from coming for Jum’ah service.
“Yet Fayose was not satisfied. He gave orders that the evening Arabic classes attended by little children should stop and pronto, the owner complied. Again he instructed them to stop the Sunday morning Asalatu activities. Akinbami also obeyed. But Fayose appears dissatisfied. He would not stop until he has destroyed his perceived enemy and that is exactly what he started this morning.”
Surprised that Ayodele Fayose, who has been all over the place accusing President Buhari of an unfounded dictatorship, has himself been enmeshed in all kinds of impunity against law abiding Nigerians doing business in Ekiti State, MURIC sent an SOS to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Kpokun Idris to race to Ado-Ekiti and stop the lawlessness going on from the hoodlums it said were believed to be carrying out the draconian order of the governor.
“It is a flagrant abuse of power to threaten a law abiding and peaceful citizen. Every Nigerian citizen has the right to domicile in any part of the country. We charge the IG to act immediately before an innocent man and most probably many others along with him are viciously crushed by a marauding and lawless governor,” MURIC said.
A respondent of The DEFENDER has expressed concerned that Ayodele Fayose would be let on in the name of the rule of law to destroy a whole federating unit, without which Nigerian Federation is incomplete.
