“AFRICOM was established without the consent of African populations, and to date, almost every African country (except Djibouti) has rejected hosting its headquarters. It operates through partnerships, bases, and shadow operations without public transparency or local democratic legitimacy,” it said.

Barely 72 hours after Africa’s heads of state gathered at the African Union (AU)’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the celebration of Africa Day 2025 and 62nd anniversary of the continental body, with a call demanding for justice and unconditional freedom for Africa, more Africans and people of the African descent have taken to the social media to further amplify their demands.

This time, they are taking on American Army General Michael Langley, condemning him over his threat to go to Burkina Faso and rescue the country from what he called terrorism. The people from The Gambia to Nigeria and Botswana to Tanzania and Ghana South Africa, Zambia among others are saying there has been no such request from any African asking America or any nation of the West to come for any rescue.

They say the problem of terrorism in the continent especially in West Africa, not only Burkina Faso but also Nigeria inclusive, is no more than the handiwork of the same supposed Samaritans hasting to come for rescue. “We don’t need you”, they chorused at a rally in Ghana.

As a matter of authenticity they are saying, like US or French military bases and troops have been booted out of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, steps should be taken urgently to also relocate same from Code ‘Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Kenya, Cameroon and any other African country especially in West Africa where America and Western military bases still have footing.

They describe the continued presence of Western military bases in those territories as insult to Africa and African peoples.

The DEFENDER global online newspaper reports the concerns expressed by an organized social media platform, the Africa News Line 700, entitled, “BREAKING: Who told this General that Africa needs AFRICOM?” with reference to comments by the American General Michael Langley.

Africa News Line 700 is a platform dedicated to providing detailed insights into African affairs and promoting the rights of African individuals.

According to the platform on Thursday May 29, 2025, “No African people voted for it. No African Union resolution called for it. No pan-African consultation endorsed it. AFRICOM was imposedโ€”not invited.

“AFRICOM was established without the consent of African populations, and to date, almost every African country (except Djibouti) has rejected hosting its headquarters. It operates through partnerships, bases, and shadow operations without public transparency or local democratic legitimacy,” it said.

It then opened the floor for black people from Africa and across the world to give their thoughts.
