*’Say No to Sahara Reporters’ campaign begins

In what has been described as spiritual ‘misdeeds’ rocking the house of Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, while attempting to perfect the support base it gives to its fellow Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s member believed to be leader of the party’s thuggery unit, Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho, may have finally landed itself in a big trouble as it offends religious sensibility of over 100 million Muslims of Nigeria.
This is as the ethnic nationality, known for its hate and dis-recognition for existence of Muslims in Yoruba Land necessitating why it never had a Muslim as member, is being condemned for its comment published by Sahara Reporters online newspaper disparaging the Islamic faith by deliberately insulting the symbol of the Muslims’ religion.
The publication sparked widespread condemnations and outrage from Muslims because the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation said there is nothing wrong with Yoruba tribalist ‘warlord’, Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho, seeking asylum in another country where his safety can be guaranteed, adding in the report statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, that Igboho is like Prophet Muhammed who fled Mecca to Medina over persecution.
The multiplying negative effect of the Afenifere’s “insensibility towards the feeling of a faith community as large as of Muslim Ummah of Nigeria” has touched not only the group but also, ‘more remarkably’, the medium, Sahara Reporters, that it used to advance the hugely disliked course, The DEFENDER gathered.

It has led to a boycotting campaign against Sahara Reporters for publishing the disrespectful comparison that might incite harsh reactions from Muslim faithfuls. There have been calls to unfollow the page and to report both the post and the page by different individuals and religious groups.

Afenifere is a Yoruba group that has as members only Christians with mainly agenda of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), allegations had been made in the past, which was the major reason the anti-Islamic crusade of CAN against Muslims especially female students wearing hijab in public schools and offices across South West, has been thick.

The Personal Assistant on New Media to the President Bashir Ahmed, in his reaction, wrote: “The statement by Afenifere comparing our beloved Prophet (PBUH) to Sunday Igboho and reported by Sahara Reporters is condemnable.  The two can never compare in any way.

“I strongly protest and condemn the statement and ask all the meaningful people to also condemn and report it.”

Thousands of Muslims have embarked on reporting the pages of the news platform calling for its total shutdown.
