The National President, Supporters Club of Nigeria, Prince Vincent Okumagba, has tasked the players of Super Eagles to wear the armour of ‘can-do’ spirit of Nigerians, as they play Cameroon in the second round of the on-going African Cup of Nations today Saturday January 27, 2024.
He spoke after a pre-match meeting held at Palais de la Culture, on Friday January 26, 2024, attended by Coach Jose Peseiro and Moses Simon, who represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Prince Okumagba, in a chat with The DEFENDER at the media center in Abidjan, commended the Super Eagles for their determination thus far, while stating the that the players have shown fortitude and grit in their group matches.
He called on the players to once again demonstrate such attributes against the five-time African champions (Cameroon), who he said would want to seek revenge following their recent string of losses against Nigeria.
He noted that the rivalry between the two neighbouring countries have been fierce over the years but was quick to add that the Super Eagles would once again triumph and brighten their chances of lifting the trophy.
According to him, “The Super Eagles are carrying the hopes of Nigerians to land a fourth AFCON title and odds are in their favour given their resilience so far.
“I want to join the rest of Nigerians in praying for victory against Cameroon. We have the players, experience and determination to succeed; I strongly believe that we will carry the day in our march towards reaching the final.”
He, however, called on the players to be more effective in scoring goals and strengthen their unity in fighting for the overall good of the team.
“We have had many scoring opportunities in our previous matches and i believe we will still have against Cameroon, I urge the team to be more effective and convert more chances to finish the match in regulation time,” he summed up.
Friday evening, both the accredited CAF journalists and members of the Supporters Club of Nigeria led by Chigozie Nnadi, Chairman of delegation of the club, were at the training pitch of the Super Eagles at Ecole Nationale de Police Cocody, Cote D’Ivoire.
