Kano Gov launches 2nd phase of Postgraduate Scholarship Programme
*Assures programme, by nature, transparent, inclusive, free from political bias

He revealed that 40 percent of the 478 beneficiaries from the first batch have already completed their studies and are awaiting their results.
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated an 18-member committee to oversee the second phase of the Postgraduate Scholarship Programme.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the initiative was said to aims at supporting 1,001 first-class graduates in pursuing master’s degrees at leading public and private universities across Nigeria.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, Governor Abba Yusuf, fondly called Abba Gida Gida by admirers of his Kano administration, reaffirmed his commitment to fostering academic excellence and empowering Kano’s youth.
“When we launched the 1001 Scholarship Scheme, our vision was to empower Kano’s brightest minds to compete globally, excel in their fields, and bring their expertise back home to drive the progress of our state,” he said.
He added that, “Today’s event reaffirms our dedication to providing world-class educational opportunities for our youth.”
Governor Yusuf gave assurances of transparency, inclusiveness and freeness from political biases, as far as the nature of the programme is concerned, while emphasising education as a critical investment for Kano’s future.
He then pledged sustainable financial support and equitable selection processes to ensure the programme’s success.
The DEFENDER reports that the newly inaugurated committee, chaired by the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, was tasked with ensuring the programme’s smooth implementation.
In his remarks, Dr. Kofarmata pledged the committee’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and diligence in selecting deserving candidates.
He revealed that 40 percent of the 478 beneficiaries from the first batch have already completed their studies and are awaiting their results.
He, further, explained that interested students would apply for the scholarship, after which the committee would rigorously screen candidates for admission into reputable institutions across the country.
