Former Minister of Works during the administration of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, has described character as germane in the project for national rebirth as, according to him, academically achieved degrees alone cannot do it.
Adeyeye, who is a former Senator representing Ekiti State and current Chairman Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), stated this while playing the role of Special Guest at the 2024 Valedictory Service and Commissioning Ceremony of the Crown Heights College, Ibadan, Oyo State on Saturday July 27, 2024, also touched on the currently pressing national issue of #EndBadGovernance protests over hunger and hardship in Nigeria.
The NPA Chairman urged Nigerians to shelve planned protest slated to flag off on August 1 and run until August 10, 2024 even as he canvassed support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, urging citizens to be more patient.
He said, “The fear that we have is that hoodlums, miscreants, and evil people will hijack the protest, turn it violent, and bring untold hardship to innocent people,” he said.
Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, Chairman of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), was accompanied to the event by Secretary General of SWAGA and former House of Representatives Member representing Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Barrister Bosun Oladele, at the occasion at the instance of his brother and Proprietor of Crown Heights College, US-based Prince Gbadebo Adeyeye, also attended by renowned author (of Economics and Government textbooks by OA Lawal), Dr. Olayiwola A. Lawal, among g several other dignitaries.
Adeyeye, an Ekiti Prince, expressed confidence that the President Tinubu’s economic policies would benefit Nigerians in the long run.
“I appeal to Nigerians to be patient, exercise restraint, and give the government more room to operate,” he said.
“I am confident that the president’s economic policies will ultimately yield fruitful dividends for the people of this country,” he added.
He noted that the President has proven to be a listening leader who understands the struggles of Nigerians.
The former minister praised the president’s achievements since assuming office, highlighting efforts to lift Nigeria from its current challenges.
Adeyeye listed achievements such as the students’ loan programme, local government autonomy, security re-engineering, and palliatives distribution.
He also mentioned ongoing reforms aimed at returning the country to the path of progress and prosperity.
The former minister commended the federal government for the regular distribution of palliatives, urging the involvement of reputable associations in the process.
Adeyeye stressed that involving such groups would ensure palliatives reach the targeted grassroots people.
The event was preceded by commissioning of Oba David Opeyemi Adeyeye Hall of the Crown Heights College, Ibadan, by former Minister of Information, and one time Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Honourable Labaran Maku. He was guest speaker at the event.
