Wike miscalculated when he directed Speaker, 26 lawmakers to defect to APC – Edwin Clark

Chief Edwin Clark, the former South South Leader and Federal Commissioner for Information, talked about the causes of the present political unrest and linked it to a mistake made by Nyesom Wike.

According to a media report, Edwin Clark clarified that Wike was suspected of planning how to impeach the Speaker of the House, a native of Obio/Akpor. Additionally, he was the mastermind behind the 26 PDP members that defected to the APC.

Edwin Clark said that this action was incorrect since it went against both the pertinent Supreme Court rulings and the 1999 Constitution.

In his words, “Ask people why this matter came to this level. When people went and plotted the removal of the speaker, you think we would fold our hands to remove the Speaker, an Obio/Akpor son?”

“But unfortunately, he miscalculated when he directed the Speaker, his kinsman, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and the 26 members to defect from the PDP, the political party that sponsored them, to the APC, which does not have a single member in the Rivers State House of Assembly, gleefully singing the APC song and waving the APC flag.”

“They did not realize that, by their action, they automatically lost their seats in accordance with the 1999 Constitution as amended and the series of Supreme Court judgments on the same matter.”
