Before him was Senator Kashim Shettima, who was sworn in as Vice President by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola at about 12pm.

Tinubu’s take-over of office, on Monday May 29, brought to an end the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari and that happened two months after he was declared by Chairman of Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC) as winner of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

The new Nigerian President polled 8,794,726 votes as All Progressives Congress (APC) to beat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 6,984,520 votes, while Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi, 61, came in third with 6,101,533 ballots.

Tinubu becomes the fifth democratically President of Nigeria in the ongoing Fourth Republic and 16th head of state of the country. He is 71.

His predecessors are Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2023), Goodluck Jonathan (2010-2015), Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007-2010), and Olusegun Obasanjo (1999-2007).
