A joint statement released by Zamfara State councils of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have condemned the non-payment of two months salaries and pensions by the state government.
In a statement signed by Comrade Sani Halliru of NLC and Comrade Saidu Mudi of TUC, it was stated that, “series of issues prevailed and meetings were vigorously held in respect of the above subject matter involving all the stakeholders on the best way it could be handled where the two labour centres, the Nigeria labour congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, strongly condemned and expressed their dismay over the nonchallant attitude of the Zamfara state government to pay salary of its workers for two consecutive months.”
It added that having patiently waited for the salary to be paid, the two labour centers therefore as a matter of responsibility request the state government to save lives of workers and that of their families who heavily relies on salary and being their legitimate earnings and their statutory rights to with immediate effect pay the salary with a view to alleviating their hardships.
“The NLC/TUC have understood and are concerned about how aggrieved state civil servants are, however, we crave for your indulgence, support and cooperation as we move to fight for your rights, therefore we urge you to be more patient and persevere,”the statement concluded.
