Ogun Police kills 2 robbers of Portharcourt bound luxury bus

*Recovers pump action guns, as 6 escape with bullet wounds

The Ogun State Police Command, in furtherance to its resolve to rid its state of responsibility of all kinds of crimes and insecurity, says it has overpowered two suspected armed robbers who engaged them in gun battle, killing both.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, men of the state command were said to have engaged the dare devil robbers in gun duel at J4 Area of Ogbere where the hoodlums hijacked a luxury cars heading to Porthacout in River State and robbed the passengers.

The state police spokesman, Oyeyemi, said that the robbers numbering about eight, blocked the highway at about 1:40 am, hijacked the luxury bus and drove it into the bush, where the passengers were robbed of their money, phones and other valuables.

He however said that luck ran against the night marauder when the men of the state police command got the information and DPO Ogbere Division CSP Adeyinka Akingbade led his of Anti-robbery team, Safer Highway Patrol and other special units in the area to the scene.

“On sighting the Police, the robbers engaged them in gun battle which lasted for about 45 minutes. At the end of the encounter, 2 members of the gang were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds.

“Recovered from them are 3 pump action guns, 2 locally made pistols, several GSM phones and three motorcycles,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu who commended the gallantry display of his men appealed to members of the public especially hospitals to quickly alert the Police if they see anybody with bullet wound as such persons may be the escaped members of the gang.
