N500 and N1,000 notes: Quit dreaming, by Uche Diala

If I say I am not ashamed at what happened this (Tuesday) morning with the fake news alleged to be from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), that would be a big lie.

But know this and thank me later …

The cash-less and currency redesign policy has come to stay. There is no going back. Not even the Supreme Court can change that and the honourable Supreme Court Judges know that.

The N500 and N1,000 notes have ceased to be legal tenders and there is nothing anyone, including any state governor or even the Supreme Court can do about it.

Why? Because it was executed by the constitutionally mandated and recognised institution to so do and no law was broken.

If you want any information or directive about the Naira or the currency redesign policy, better listen to the CBN and more importantly obey and comply while you are exercising your right to wail and complain.

This is what you should do to avoid having your money turned into relics of the past in your hands.  That is, if you are one of the recalcitrant ones who still have N500 and N1,000 old notes hidden in their pit latrines.

Only listen to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. There is only one at a time in Nigeria and you know who he is and there are official channels through which he communicates to Nigerians.

Act your education a little and do not allow any Lady, Governor or soshaa media influenza to deceive or mislead you. Avoid fake news.

The situation is slowly but gradually improving. The President has directed that the N200 old notes be re-circulated in addition to the existing N5, N10, N20, N50, N100 notes and the new N200, N500 and N1,000 notes.

Why the unwillingness to be patient and allow that or anything else to work?

What is this desperation by some people over and with the old N500 and N1,000 notes? Who really are they fighting for?

Well, they are gone for good. Know that and have peace.

I have told you the simple truth. If you like abuse me behind my back, it does not concern me but if you do it here or to my face, I will speak to you in the language you will understand.
