Saboteurs of government’s policy and achievements for the good of citizens, including those who hamper their ability to assess with ease new redesigned Naira notes in circulation, have begun to meet their waterloo, The DEFENDER can authoritatively report.
This was as the Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted some members of organised syndicates involved in the sale of the new redesigned Naira notes and urged members of the public to cooperate with the moves to end the menace in the country, by reporting anyone found to sell new notes to appropriate authorities.
Making this known in a statement dated January 30, 2023 and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER on Monday, Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, also disclosed how some bank officials, who are expected to be patriotic with unalloyed loyalty to the nation in ensuring success of the new notes in reaching the citizens, soiled their own hands with corruption while subverting the process.
Dr. Afunanya said, “In the course of its operations, in this regard in parts of the country, it was also established that some Commercial Bank officials are aiding the economic malfeasance.”
Consequently, the Service warned the currency racketeers to desist from the ignoble act, while urging appropriate regulatory authorities to, in the same vein, “to step up monitoring and supervisory activities to expeditiously address the emerging trends.”
The DSS Spokesman sounded it clear the measure his secret agency has put in place in ensuring that such saboteurs, who may want to continue in the anti-progress act, are brought down before they bring the nation down.
He said noting that, “the Service has ordered its Commands and Formations to further ensure that all persons and groups engaged in the illegal sale of the notes are identified. Therefore, anyone with useful information relating to this is encouraged to pass the same to the relevant authorities.”
