Laolu Akande said his boss visited the market “to feel the pulse of Nigerians, hear directly from the people, have one-on-one interaction with them and assure them that the administration was committed to improving the economy.”
Nigerians, on Friday, continued to express their happiness at the manner of leadership of the of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as they suddenly found the man who currently coordinate the activities of the government as Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, come to price items in a market that could best be described as common people’s market.
Prof. Osinbajo, who after receiving some students in his office, had dashed down from the Rock of Power where he operates to visit the Garki Model Market in Abuja where he interacted with traders for 40 minutes.
His spokesman, Laolu Akande, said his boss’ visit to the market was part of activities marking the second anniversary of President Muhammad Buhari’s administration “to feel the pulse of Nigerians, hear directly from the people, have one-on-one interaction with them and assure them that the administration was committed to improving the economy.”
Most of the traders Osinbajo interacted with lamented the high cost of shops which they said was not within their reach. One of them, Nasiru Kuryfi, said the management of the market was yet to complete the shops for which traders paid several years ago.
Osinbajo, who was accompanied by the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar, asked the traders to keep the prices of goods affordable, especially during the Ramadan.
The Acting President also asked the traders and other Nigerians to go into farming, saying, “The more we farm, the more the cost of products will come down”.
