Go back to judicial based public execution of notorious criminals, Chief Imam of Akure tells FG
By KEMI KASUMU
Like the saying of where there is law there is no sin, an effective administration of justice has been described as the only way to free Nigeria of heinous crimes.
This was contained in the Juma’at sermon of Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Ondo State, Sheikh AbdulHakeem Yayi Akorede, on Friday.
Akorede, who led the Akure Muslim Community delegation on visit to victims of Sunday June 5, 2022 suspected terrorist attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, in the state, was still touched that some human beings born of woman would look at fellow man and sniff life out of him.
This, he said, has great consequences before Allah either here or in the hereafter, if only the evil doers know.
He said effective judicial system, which guarantees proper investigation and prosecution of criminal offences, is the only way to check such heinous crimes in the country.
Akorede also called for resuscitation of public execution of notorious criminals to serve as deterrent to other criminals.
Apparently referring to recent attack on Owo Church, the Islamic scholar said killing of an innocent soul is like killing the entire mankind in the sight of Allah.
While calling for effective protection of the Nigerian masses, the Chief Imam said the Owo incident must be properly investigated and culprits exposed.
He prayed for peace and tranquility in Nigeria and among the Nigerian people.
