SOKOTO SECURITY: Police arrest 37 bandits, 20 other criminals, recover heavy duty weapons
*All linked to notorious bandit leader, Turji- DIG Ops
The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested 37 suspected bandits, 20 other criminals and recovered cache of weapons from them.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Zaki Ahmed, while addressing newsmen at the command headquarters on Monday.
According to him, the arrest followed Operation Sahara Storm, which raided bandits’ camps in Illela, Rabah and Goronyo Local Government areas of the state.
“Weapons recovered include 32 AK-47 rifles; two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher; one rocket launcher; 1,412 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition; 1,200 round of AA live ammunition; four locally made pistols; one Barreta pistol; four operational vehicles; 33 live cartridges; three AK-47 magazines” and many others.
“All the suspects were linked to the notorious bandit leader, Turji and they all confessed to their complicity in the crime of banditry,” Ahmed said.
He added that investigation is on and the suspects would be charged soon as completed.
