Zamfara First Lady in street walk for sensitisation against domestic, gender based violence

The wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajia Aisha Bello, on Saturday, participated in a street walk in Gussu, the state capital, to sensitize members of the public against the dangers of domestic violence.
She was leading this particularly to tell the people of the state why it is evil, especially the gender base violence against women, to mark this year’s International Day against Gender Base Violence.
She also paid advocacy visit to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Yakub Elkana, in their palace and state Command, respectively.
The First Lady said.she decided to visit the two important personalities to seek their blessings and support on this all-inclusive and all-important crusade against gender based violence.
Specifically, she appealed to the respected monarch to mobilise his subjects and sensitise them against the evil practice usually done against women and other vulnerable members of the society.
Responding. the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, pledged to mobilize all district heads to ensure that such evil practice is not tolerated in their respective domains.
Speaking further, the monarch said part of the instructions he would give the district heads would be to tell that wherever the shameful behaviours was detected, the culprit should be reported to relevant agencies for necessary action.
He said the emirate was in total support of any action to stop violence and any form of discrimination against women in the society.
At the police command, CP Yakub Elkana, in his response, said the police would be hard on anybody found discriminating against women particularly when it involves violence against them.
He said the society should help the police by reporting any domestic violence, particularly, gender based violence in their respective areas.
The campaign witnessed a large turnout of people, including commissioners, CSOs or NGOs and politicians.
