Buhari meets Saraki, Dogara over budget, other issues
Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara Tuesday met President Muhammadu Buhari over the 2017 budget and other economic issues.
The one-hour closed-door meeting, which was held inside the president’s office at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, took place a day after Buhari resumed work. He had been on medical vacation in London.
The Senate president later told State House reporters that the meeting discussed activities that took place in the National Assembly while Buhari was away.
He said the issues included the pending 2017 budget and the ambassadorial nominations as well as the confirmation of the appointment of Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria and the approval of the $1bn Eurobond sale.
Saraki said they also discussed issues “of the ambassadorial nominees that is due, the stability in the Niger Delta, a whole range of issues were covered in the short period of time.”
Saraki said the National Assembly would pass the 2017 budget this month “We are working on it and our target is still this month, and we are working very hard to ensure we meet that deadline.”
Also speaking, Dogara stated that he was not at the State House to assess Buhari’s health condition, saying the journalists knew better than he did.
