Celebrations as Rotimi Akeredolu sworn-in as Ondo State new Governor
Ondo State, South West Nigeria, was in a celebration mood on Friday, following the swearing in of Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as its new governor.
The ceremony was performed by the Acting Chief Justice of the state, Justice Temitayo Osoba, at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure, the state capital.
Also sworn in was the state Deputy Governor, Barrister Agboola Ajayi.
The event was well attended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) party supporters, APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Segun Oni, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Solid Minerals Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Senator Dino Melaye. Also at the event were governors of Ogun Ibikunle Amosun, Oyo Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi, Edo Godwin Obaseki, Sokoto Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Kogi Yahya Bello and their Ekiti, Niger and Plateau states counterparts, as well as friends and family members of the new Ondo State governor.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also on ground although he left in the middle of the ceremony.
Governor Akeredolu is the sixth elected governor of Ondo
State, the first being Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin who was in Alagbaka between 1979 and 1983, on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
Based on the outcome of the November 25, 2016 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, as the winner.
Akeredolu polled 244, 842 votes to beat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 150, 380 votes while Mr. Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), who came third, followed with 126, 889 votes.
