Lockdown: CAN reportedly demands re-opening of Churches

It has come to the knowledge of The DEFENDER that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Monday demanded for the reopening of churches amidst the lockdown across the country to prevent Coronavirus.

This was reportedly contained in a statement made available to journalists on Monday by the CAN Chairman, South-East, Bishop Dr. Goddy Okafor.

The CAN in the South-East said the Church should not remain closed forever as it remained a place of hope for the people as every other solution to the pandemic seemed elusive.

Going further, Bishop Okafor called for the reopening of churches in the country in order for Nigerians to cry to God for solution to this pandemic.

Although effort to get CAN President Samson Ayokunle to react to the development was yet to succeed as at time of filing this report on Wednesday, our Correspondent reports that the non-denial of the reports 48 hours after may mean a confirmation.

The DEFENDER reports that the National President of CAN Rev Samson Ayokunle had in his Palm Sunday Message recently bemoaned what he described as worst time the Christians of Nigeria have never witnessed.

He said the challenges facing the faith in Nigeria was not only Coronavirus and other diseases but persecution of the church, lamenting that American government that they used to run to for quick help was now overwhelmed by the disease.
