BREAKING: Ada Ugo-Ngali bags 10-year jail term over subsidy fraud
Lagos state high court has sentenced the managing director of Ontoario Oil and Gas Limited, Ada Ugo-Ngali to 10 years in prison, after he was convicted of fraud in the oil subsidy case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The presiding judge, Justice Lateefat Okunnu said the EFCC proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict who has been standing trial alongside Walter Wagbasoma, the Chairman of the Ontario Oil and Gas, was actually guilty of the N1.9 billion fuel subsidy fraud alleged against them.
Until now, Ugo-Ngali has managed to avoid being sentenced after the judge had found her and Wagbasoma guilty of the charges brought against them.
At the proceeding of the court on January 13, 2017, Justice Okunnu was about to pronounce her sentence while the Ontario Oil and Gas MD threw up, collapsed and fainted.
She was subsequently rushed in ambulance to hospital.
Two other attempts by the court to pronounce her sentence were frustrated as the convict could not show up in court due to her ill-health in hospital.
The case which was instituted by the EFCC in 2012, witnessed in 2013, the first arraignment of the defendants alongside Babafemi Fakuade, a staff of Petroleum Product Price Regulatory Agency (PPRA) who was eventually discharged and acquitted by the judge.
