The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has dismissed the allegation by Governor Ayodele Fayose that the party was plotting his removal through the manipulation of the judiciary to re-open Army Panel report on the 2014 governorship poll to have his election victory reversed.

Fayose had in a letter to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, accused two former Governors in the state, Engr. Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi of clandestine moves to coerce the judiciary to use Army Panel report to reverse his election victory, praying the CJN to resist the move to preserve democracy and integrity of the judiciary.

Both Oni and Fayemi are currently APC Deputy National Chairman (South) and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, respectively, in the country.

But Ekiti State APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the allegation as unfounded and baseless.

Accusing Fayose of crying wolf where none exists, Olatunbosun said there was no meeting where Fayemi and Oni met to boast that he would be removed, noting that the governor was only jittery and afraid of the consequences of his many infractions on the law.

Insisting that there was no meeting between Fayemi and Oni to plot Fayose’s removal, Olatunbosun said: “Fayemi and Oni are too decent and busy in their assignments to engage in such frivolous boasts that Fayose is accusing them of.

Meantime, the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Thursday, declared that the alleged subterranean moves to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose as the governor of Ekiti State would lead to the total collapse of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, if eventually carried out.

The party described as reasonable and justifiable, the letter written on Wednesday by the governor to the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen informing him on the alleged moves to co-opt a section of the judiciary to the devilish plot.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti, the PDP State Chairman, Barr. Gboyega Oguntuase, said the alleged plot to remove the governor would create crisis of monumental proportion that would be difficult for the Nigeria Army to curtail.

But a section of Nigerian people, who reacted through The DEFENDER Thursday night to the Ayodele Fayose’s letter to the CJN and the statement credited to the Ekiti State chapter of PDP, expressed dismay that people like Fayose and his party leadership would be so unashamed trying hard to protect their heinous past and present thinking that doing so will ever make them escape from the long arms of the law.

One of the respondents, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said, “Knowing Fayose for who he is, being the one that will be plotting and at the same time being the one that will be crying foul, I find it difficult to believe his allegation that Oni and Fayemi are plotting to unseat him.  However, even if Oni and Fayemi are truly plotting to unseat him and Governor Fayose agrees that it was through judiciary process, which is constitutional, what is wrong with that, since whatever they are alleged to be planning to do is according to the rule of law?

“Thank God he didn’t say the former governors were plotting to invade his Government House with DSS or police or soldiers which he, the accuser, was capable of doing even as PDP candidate.  The APC has a right to revisit whatever court decision that they feel that they now have evidence to revisit.  In the wake of many revelations that we have all witnessed, which no judge will claim he is not aware of, who says that Supreme Court judgment cannot be revisited if it so matters?  If Fayose is sincere with himself, he should know that he is the one trying to coerce the judiciary to do the needful in this matter.  Why should a person in the position as occupied by this man always agitate whenever he feels that the truth has been so open to warrant constitutional action against him?

“The governor, like his good friend in Rivers State, is just trying hard to ensure that his ugly past and present is not revealed.  But how far can he try to cover the truth from justice that will eventually catch up with him?

“The last time I checked, the APC, both the Abuja politicians among them and the ones in Ekiti, said they were not ready to remove him despite the clear opportunity to do so.  How come Ayodele Fayose will not stop to behave in a way unexpected of a sitting governor so that we can all have our peace and concentrate on governance?”

On the PDP’s threat of collapsing Buhari’s government should Fayose be impeached, the respondent said, “It is just a noise by a people beaten persistently by their guilty conscience because, nothing will happen if Fayose is unseated today provided it is based on the rule of law.

“Okay, the PDP people and their governor can complain against unseating them from power.  All the actions and programmes of Fayose against President Buhari since inception of his administration, what else should it be called if not to unseat the President?  If President Muhammadu Buhari did not complain or agitate against him and his party (PDP) at all levels, they should just go on with the activities they are known for as justice is a natural thing that will happen no matter how much effort anybody puts to block it from happening,” he said.
