Zamfara State had 1,952,060 registered voters as of the 2023 general elections, noting that the 313,115 registrations recorded under the ongoing CVR exercise represented approximately 16.04 per cent of the previous registered-voter figure.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has recorded 313,115 registrations under its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as of August 2026, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Mahmud Isa, has disclosed.

Isa made this known during a critical stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

He recalled that Zamfara State had 1,952,060 registered voters as of the 2023 general elections, noting that the 313,115 registrations recorded under the ongoing CVR exercise represented approximately 16.04 per cent of the previous registered-voter figure.

According to him, the stakeholders’ meeting provided another valuable opportunity for constructive engagement, information sharing and strengthening collaboration between the Commission and critical stakeholders.

The REC called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, community leaders, civil society organisations, youth and women’s groups, as well as the media, to intensify public enlightenment and sensitisation, particularly on the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to discharging its constitutional responsibilities with independence, impartiality, professionalism, transparency and integrity.

Isa explained that the Commission’s preparations for forthcoming electoral activities covered voter register management and PVC collection, assessment of polling units and electoral facilities, deployment of personnel, materials and technology, personnel training, voter education, security risk assessment and mitigation, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with the approved electoral timetable.

On security, the REC acknowledged the peculiar challenges confronting some communities in Zamfara State.

He said the Commission would continue to collaborate with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders to identify electoral risks, assess their implications and develop appropriate mitigation measures within the framework of the law.

Isa also urged political parties, candidates, supporters and other political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly, in strict compliance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC guidelines.

He further warned stakeholders against the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, manipulated digital content and inflammatory messages, stressing the importance of verifying election-related information through the Commission’s official communication channels before sharing it.

The REC called for collective responsibility among stakeholders to promote peaceful electoral participation, credible elections and public confidence in the electoral process.
