Kano State Government debunks report it donated N10m to EFCC
Contrary to reports making the rounds, the Kano State Government has denied donating N10m to anti-corruption agencies, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
A statement in swift reaction, signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Ameen K. Yassar, said that N10m was given to the organisers of anti-corruption marathon, against what was erroneously reported by some online media.
“Our attention has been drawn to media reports, credited to some online media, that the Kano state Government has donated N10 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICP),, for the upcoming National Anti-Corruption Marathon tournament.
“The claim is entirely false, mischievous and a misrepresentation of the Press Release issued earlier on by this office.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Kano State Government did not and does not intend to contribute money to EFCC, ICPC or any other anti-corruption agency for any reason whatsoever.
“It must, however, be made clear that Kano State Government donated N10 million to the organizers of the Marathon tournament Fair Play Sports International Agency,” it stated.
It further explained that Fair Play Sports is a private entity that is organizing the marathon with EFCC, ICPC, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, National Olympic Committee and other anti-corruption stakeholders as partners.
