The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wednesday said it was not aware of any missing sensitive election material for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra state.
The commission also said it has not received any official report in that regard.
The national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Chief Victor Oye, had on Monday, alleged that two lorry loads of sensitive materials meant for the Anambra gubernatorial poll were intercepted by the police in an undisclosed hotel in Awka.
The chairman who also alleged that two persons were arrested in connection with the incident, said the party had lost confidence in the capacity of both the electoral umpire and the Federal government in conducting a credible election in the state.
But the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, in a statement issued in Awka and made available to newsmen, said the materials allegedly found in a hotel room in the state capital are not the Commission’s property.
“The Commission wishes to point out in clear terms that it is not possible for sensitive materials meant for the Anambra State Governorship election to be delivered to a hotel room, because there are laid down processes of delivery of sensitive election materials, which involve strict monitoring of the process by party agents, election observers, security agencies and the media.
“The Commission also wishes to restate its determination and commitment to ensure that the 18 November Anambra State Governorship election is free, fair and credible, and solicits the cooperation of the people of the State in this regard,” he added.
