Benue Government to immortalise late Victor Malu, as valiant General laid to rest

*Army has lost one most valiant officer – Buratai

A former Chief of Army Staff, General Samuel Victor Leo Malu, who died earlier this month was on Saturday laid to rest at his country home in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

Governor Samuel Ortom who spoke at the funeral of the deceased at Tse-Adoor in Katsina-Ala announced his decision to consult with the State House of Assembly on how best to immortalise the late Army Chief.

He described the late General Malu as a great son of the state who added value and brought outstanding professionalism to bear on military service in the country and made the people proud.

Ortom added that even in his death, Malu attracted the electrification of several communities and his village, stressing that more of such will be brought to the area as he solicited support from the Army and other security agencies in the implementation of the Anti-open Grazing Law with effect from November, 1, 2017.

Earlier, spokesperson, for Course Three of the Nigeria Defence Academy, General Chris Garuba, extolled the leadership qualities of the deceased pointing out that he served his country meritoriously

While the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, represented by Tor Sankera, Chief Abu King Shuluwa, urged the Federal Government and the Army to compensate communities as well as the Adoor family who suffered destruction during the 2001 invasion.

On his part, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, noted that the Army had lost one of its most valiant officers who served his country with distinction.

Malu died on October 9, at a Cairo hospital in Egypt.
