NNPC Feud: Buhari will do the needful— VON DG

“But as his follower, President Buhari will not disappoint. He will do the needful and will not allow anyone to dent his image or tarnish his integrity.  If the allegations are valid, he will not allow the political capital upon which we followed him and upon which Nigerians voted for him and upon which the international community endorsed him to be dented.”

The Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, has assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari will not disappoint them in the dispute between the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kackikwu, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru.

Dr. Kachikwu had petitioned Buhari over alleged insubordination by Dr. Baru, saying the GMD awarded contracts amounting to over $23 billion without the knowledge of the NNPC Board or himself.

Reacting to the issue in an interview with newsmen in Enugu, Okechukwu said: “Spare me. I am not the spokesman of Mr. President.

“But as his follower, President Buhari will not disappoint. He will do the needful and will not allow anyone to dent his image or tarnish his integrity.

“If the allegations are valid, he will not allow the political capital upon which we followed him and upon which Nigerians voted for him and upon which the international community endorsed him to be dented.”

He noted that Buhari’s urgent meeting with Kachikwu had vindicated some of those who believed that the Minister’s letter did not get to the President.

The man Osita as Buharist loyalist since CPC days

Osita Okechukwu hails from Eke, in Udi Local Council, Enugu State, South East Nigeria. His firebrand disposition as the APC south-east geopolitical zone spokesperson was largely responsible for driving APC’s presence to the consciousness of the people.

Regarded as most competent and favoured for the position he currently occupies, his amiable stance is seen as a magic wand that can build structures, machinery and galvanize support for the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Observers say he is one man that can constructively engage the PDP state apparatus on developmental programmes with a view of charting the party’s cause.

Former governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in 2011, has a BSc from the University of Nigeria (UNN), in 1983. His grassroots reach stands him among other contenders who appear aloof to the electorates in the state.

His experience in politics can always come handy as he equally represented CPC in the merger committee that led to the formation of the APC.
