ADC Alleges Sokoto Hotels Denied Accommodation to Supporters Ahead of Atiku Rally

By OUR REPORTER

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Sokoto State Government of allegedly frustrating its planned presidential campaign flag-off by instructing hotels in the state capital to deny accommodation to its supporters ahead of the event.

The allegation comes amid reports that residents of Sokoto have offered their homes to accommodate supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

According to reports circulating on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, hotels in Sokoto were allegedly booked to prevent ADC delegates and supporters from securing accommodation ahead of the planned campaign rally.

The party’s presidential campaign spokesperson, Dahiru Maishanu, condemned the alleged development, describing it as “unbecoming and irresponsible.”

Maishanu further alleged that customers who had already paid for hotel accommodation and were staying in some establishments were being evicted to prevent the party’s supporters from finding alternative lodging.

The allegations had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report, and no response from the Sokoto State Government was contained in the statement.

Residents Reportedly Offer Homes to ADC Supporters

Amid the controversy, reports indicated that some residents had offered their private residences to accommodate supporters expected to attend the campaign event.

The reported offers include rooms, parlours and other available spaces in private homes, with some residents also pledging to provide meals during the supporters’ stay.

“This is the spirit of the North. You cannot stop the people. If you block hotels, we will open our homes for Atiku,” a supporter was quoted as saying.

Another resident reportedly said: “They booked all the hotels, but they cannot book all houses in Sokoto. The people are ready to vote out APC in 2027.”

The statements reflect the political sentiments attributed to the supporters, although the scale of the reported accommodation offers has not been independently established.

ADC Insists on Campaign Flag-Off

The ADC has maintained that its presidential campaign flag-off would proceed despite the alleged challenges over accommodation.

However, the party’s Sokoto State campaign council subsequently announced that the event, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 31, 2026, had been postponed to Wednesday, November 4, 2026, citing planning and coordination considerations.

The postponement was announced in a statement signed by the campaign council’s Director-General, Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo, on October 28.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with the ADC seeking to mobilise supporters behind Atiku’s presidential bid.

The allegations of hotel bookings and evictions have not been independently verified as at the time of filing this report just like the Sokoto State Government’s had not issued official statement regarding the allegations to concluded whether the development led to the postponement.
