The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Nigerians to sustain prayers for leaders at all levels of government as they confront insecurity and other socio-economic challenges affecting the country.
The Sultan made the call on Friday October 2, 2026 in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, while commissioning a Jumu’at Mosque reconstructed by the state government under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country’s leaders, particularly as governments at different levels intensify efforts to address insecurity and improve the socio-economic conditions of citizens.
He stressed the importance of prayers and collective support for those entrusted with the responsibility of governing the country, especially in the face of security challenges confronting communities across Nigeria.
The Sultan also commended Governor Lawal for what he described as his significant investment in religious institutions in Zamfara State.
He urged the governor to sustain the initiative, noting the importance of providing and improving facilities for religious activities and worship.

Also speaking at the occasion, the leader of the Izalatul Bidia, Jos branch, Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, commended successive administrations in Zamfara State for their attention to Islamic institutions.
Jingir said the state’s leaders, beginning with its first civilian governor, had demonstrated commitment to the development of Sharia and Islamic institutions by according them priority and providing support for their growth.
According to him, the reconstruction of five major Jumu’at Mosques in Gusau represents a major investment in Islamic institutions and places of worship.
He described the projects as significant interventions that would provide improved facilities for Muslim faithful and strengthen the infrastructure supporting religious activities in the state.
Jingir further commended the Zamfara State Government for embarking on the reconstruction projects, stressing the importance of maintaining the facilities after their completion.
In his remarks, Governor Dauda Lawal expressed appreciation to the Islamic scholars and other dignitaries who attended the commissioning ceremony.
The governor also appealed to members of the Mosque Committee to take proper ownership of the facility and ensure its effective maintenance.
He stressed the need for the mosque to remain properly maintained so that it could continue to serve worshippers and the wider Muslim community.
The Jumu’at Mosque commissioned by the Sultan is one of five major mosques undergoing reconstruction in Gusau.
The other four are the Rabi’a Mosque, Tudun Wada Mosque, Zawiyya Mosque and Gusau Central Jumu’at Mosque.
The four projects are reportedly at advanced stages of reconstruction and nearing completion.
The development of the mosques forms part of the Zamfara State Government’s investment in religious infrastructure, with the facilities expected to provide improved worship environments for Muslim faithful in the state capital.
The Sultan’s appeal for sustained prayers for leaders also came against the backdrop of continuing security and socio-economic challenges confronting Nigeria, with governments at various levels under pressure to strengthen security and improve living conditions for citizens.
