NSCIA schedules national prayer for Nigeria, General Assembly in Abuja

Jimoh said the prayer, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., would provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has scheduled a Special National Prayer for Nigeria for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, ahead of its General Assembly on Thursday, October 1.
The programmes will take place at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, the NSCIA said the special prayer would focus on peace, stability and progress in Nigeria.
Jimoh said the prayer, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., would provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
“The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has announced the convening of a Special National Prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.
“The Special National Prayer for Nigeria, scheduled to hold from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., is intended to provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for the country and its citizenry,” he stated.
According to the statement, the Council will hold its General Assembly at the same venue the following day, Thursday, October 1, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
“The General Assembly is the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA and constitutes the largest gathering of the Council,” Jimoh stated.
The assembly, headed by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will comprise the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, CFR; Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS; Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, FNAL; and Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
Also expected are Muslim public office holders, including governors, members of the legislature, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Council said representatives of Islamic organisations, members of its General Purpose Committee (GPC) and Expanded General Purpose Committee (EGPC), as well as prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria, would also participate in the assembly.
The NSCIA said the General Assembly would serve as a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
The Council called on all invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in and contribute to the success of the two-day programme.
It also urged Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development in the country.
The NSCIA reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts aimed at the stability and progress of Nigeria.
