The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament was also reported to have warned that Tehran would not reopen the strategic waterway if Washington failed to meet its demands.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route through which a significant share of the world’s oil and gas shipments passes, making any prolonged disruption a major concern for international markets.

The reported developments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and growing international concern over the potential for the conflict to escalate further.
