“Bandits have no religion, they don’t pray even though they might be wearing turban…not only Muslims wear turban people in the desert that are not Muslims does.”
The Oluwo of Iwo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Alhaji AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, the Oluwo and Paramount Ruler of Iwo Land, has again torchlighted the confusion caused by some Yoruba people trying to judge Islam by character of some Fulani persons in the bush to disconnect Muslims of Yoruba Land (South) against their fellow Muslims of Northern Nigeria, knocking the attitude as that of hypocrisy.
The fiery Yoruba king made this clarification at a forum as captured in a video posted on his verified Facebook page and personally shared to The DEFENDER by Whatsapp Saturday night of July 11, 2026.
Addressing a group of Yoruba at the forum in Kaduna, former capital of the defunct Northern Region, the Oluwo unequivocally made himself clear “to whoever cares to listen” that his mission as a prominent Oba in Yoruba Land is to make pure the throne and ensure the sanctity of Obaship in the land as one that is solely representative of God and not temple for satanism
In details he said, “Not all pasturalists are Muslims. Not all Fulani are Muslims. There are Fulani who are Muslims and in town not in the bush and they are doctors, they are lawyers. There are Fulani in this Kaduna with their land. I have friends who are Fulani and Fulani have been president of this country Nigeria.
“Some of the Fulani in the bush tearing animals, go to their settlement you won’t see modrasat where they teach their children any Arabic and Islam, you won’t see mosque there where they pray. Which Fulani pastoralist settlement have you been to and you find a mosque? Do they they build mosque like that one you built?
I am telling you nothing but the truth and you know that. I speak my truth and it is with wisdom that I do so. Whatever God wants me to say, there is no need to go and check, I don’t know how it happens but when God speaks to me I know that I hear him. I don’t know how God does it but I know that he uses my tongue to speak and he will say “This is what you should say”.
“So I am a servant that God has sent to deliver a message to his people. I am am Oba and God is the king of kings. So, it is by the permission of God that I am an Oba. It is by his consent that I am Kabiyesi but I am different among all Obas because I am the one that God sent to come and reform the throne of kingship (in my community).
“No one should question what business I have being an Oba. I met that throne dirty. If you too get to your office and find it dirty, will you continue to sit in the dirty office or will you clean it up? I have come to clean up the throne of Oba ship and I am already cleaning it.
“If they like, let some of them be feeling shy saying “we won’t follow him””, ehh, I am sent by God and it is me all the Obas will follow,” he said and his audience roared insha-Allah to which the Oba responded swiftly: “It is not about insha-Allah. That is the truth that God himself has established.”
Obaship is not to oppress or enslave
Continuing he said, “This that I am saying is what they will follow. They must accept God and must know and accept that they are representatives of God in their communities and must therefore be just with the position of Obaship.
“They must not be Obas who make life difficult for their people. That is what I have started. They must not be Obas that oppress their people and turn them into slaves. All my subjects, all my children (Iwo people) are princes not slaves. Nothing can happen to any Iwo person,” he said.
The DEFENDER reports that the bottomline of the Oluwo’s message is for Nigerians, both of the South West extractions and across the regions, should go and be rest assured that, “Bandits have no religion, they don’t pray even though they might be wearing turban…not only Muslims wear turban people in the desert that are not Muslims does.”
