Chief Imam of Ilorin for turbaning Friday July 10

Prior to his appointment, the new Chief Imam was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, Airport Road, Egbejila, Ilorin, and served as the Imam leading daily and weekly Jumu’ah prayers at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, Ilorin, among other roles.

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, will on Friday, 10th July 2026 officially turban the recently appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, as the 13th substantive Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.

A statement signed by Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, Spokesman to the Emir of Ilorin, dated Monday, 22nd June 2026 and copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER, disclosed that the turbaning ceremony will hold at the Emir’s Palace in the ancient city beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the said date.

Recall that Sheikh Dasuki Imam Fulani, who was appointed on Wednesday, 10th June 2026*, has since assumed duty and delivered his inaugural Jumu’ah Khutbah on Friday, 19th June 2026, where he preached piety and unity and peaceful coexistence in the society.

The new Chief Imam, an alumnus of Darul Kitab Wa Sunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Al-Azhar University, Cairo; and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, succeeds Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Imam Soliu, OON, the late 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, who died on 19th January 2026 after a brief illness.

While wishing Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani a long life and a divinely guided, prosperous tenure on the stool of Imamship, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari urged the entire Muslim Ummah to attend the historic event.
