Calls grow for Kwami to produce APC candidate for Gombe–Kwami–Funakaye Federal Constituency in 2027

Supporters of zoning the ticket to Kwami say the local government area has had fewer opportunities to represent the constituency at the federal level despite its political contributions and support for the party.
Stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State have called for the party’s 2027 House of Representatives ticket for the Gombe–Kwami–Funakaye Federal Constituency to be zoned to Kwami Local Government Area, citing the need for equity, fairness and political balancing.
Advocates of the proposal argue that the three local government areas that make up the constituency—Gombe Local Government Area, Kwami Local Government Area and Funakaye Local Government Area—should have equal opportunities to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.
According to political observers in the area, Funakaye LGA has produced a member of the House of Representatives four different times since the creation of the constituency, giving it the highest share of federal representation among the three LGAs.
Gombe LGA, they note, has also produced two members of the House of Representatives. In addition, the LGA has historically held significant political influence within the state, as the state capital, Gombe, is located there. The area has also produced governors of the state and senators representing the Gombe Central Senatorial District.
Supporters of zoning the ticket to Kwami say the local government area has had fewer opportunities to represent the constituency at the federal level despite its political contributions and support for the party.
They argue that allowing Kwami to produce the APC candidate in the 2027 general election would promote unity, inclusiveness and political stability across the constituency.
Proponents also believe that a candidate from Kwami could bring fresh ideas and renewed commitment to addressing development challenges affecting communities in Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye LGAs.
They further maintain that equitable distribution of leadership opportunities would strengthen the sense of belonging among all communities and help correct what they describe as a long-standing imbalance in representation.
The call comes as political consultations and early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum within political parties across the state.
