Shocks as UN Security Council blames Iran over retaliatory strikes on US military bases in Gulf countries

*Criticisms spread beyond UN to Africa, Nigeria
Meanwhile, Russia and China have criticised the resolution for not mentioning the US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior Iranian officials.
Many advocates of moral justice watched in awe, Wednesday March 11, 2026, as United Nation Security Council passed a draft resolution calling for Iran to immediately halt its attacks on what it called Gulf countries, saying they breach international law and pose a serious threat to international peace and security.
The resolution, which did not see any breach of international law in the unprovoked aggression ostensibly orchestrated by a joint plan and conspiracy of the United States of America and Israel bombing the sovereign state of Islamic Republic of Iran, was passed by 13 votes and two abstentions, with no one voting against it.
It demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Russia and China have criticised the resolution for not mentioning the US-Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior Iranian officials.
This attitude by United Nations, both as General Assembly and as Security Council, has once again open the space for concerns as to whether the UN is for nation’s of the world with their respective dignity and interest protection deservedly intact or it is for the respective and defence of the interest and rights of United States of America and Israel alone.
Since the US-Israeli strikes on February 28 triggered the ongoing war, Iran has repeatedly targeted countries across the Gulf. Tehran says it targets US military assets in the region, but those strikes have also hit civilian infrastructure like energy facilities and hotels.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also took control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas shipments. The war has pushed up crude oil and LNG prices, rattling consumers and businesses worldwide.
In the meantime, a report circulating on social media from the Federal Republic of Nigeria – of arrest by Department of State Services (DSS) in the country of a Northern social media influencer, Sarki, for indicating interest in supporting Iran against US and Iran if knew where to sign up for it – has drawn international criticisms.
The critics want to know what connection does Nigeria have with US and Israel that is worth the humiliation, sacrificing and arrest of its sincere citizens by government security agents like the DSS.
Aside reactions from across Pan-African space, a retired military officer in Nigeria, Garus Gololo, posting the photos of the arrested Sarki and that of some DSS operatives, had dared the nation’s secret agents to arrest him like they did of Sarki if they could.
Critics also criticised the Tinubu government, whose security agents are busy arrest people who publicly supported the wronged Iran against the aggressive United States of America and America while letting loose and the likes George Udom, Godwin Onoghokere, Foluke Martins and others whose support for his government, America and Israel has gotten them so high to post on social media items capable of threatening religious war in Nigeria.
“These guys, alleged to be data boys of the APC and Tinubu 2027 project, have wrecked more havoc aiming at causing religious war that could be worse than the Trump’s and Netanyahu’s war ongoing in Iran if not that the leadership of the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria refused to to be provoked and have prevailed continuously on the over half national population Muslims in the country to keep on with their good character as taught to them by Allah and his messenger peace be upon him in the Qur’an and Hadeeth.
“The same DSS knew about Sheikh Ahmed Gummi suing George Udom and Bello Isiaka to a Kaduna State court for running such war-instigatigating all of which are often unverifiable calling him a terrorist but did not arrest them and hand them over to the court. Bello Isiaka has since the Gummi’s stopped the evil and anti-peace act he allegedly was doing on Facebook for the APC. If George Udom had been arrested by the DSS then and handed to the court, his more energy being decipated to the act joined by Godwin and Foluke Martins would not have. But it is a Northerner, Sarki, who only said he would love to sign up to support Iran if he knew how that they went and arrested. I just hope the reports are not true,” he said.
Others, who spoke under condition of anonymity to The DEFENDER in reaction to the UN Security Council to take side with the aggressors, US and Israel, over the Iran war, are also asking to know why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would mock the world of justice by openly renewing a bilateral agreement involving security and economic cooperations with Israel.
“Tinubu did this hobnobbing with Israel in the heat of its joint “terror” carried out in collaboration with America against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” one of them said, citing the yet to be activated the arrest order on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by International Criminal Court (ICC) on his genocide by airstrikes against women, children and defenceless men of Gaza.
The DEFENDER reports that Nigeria’s fellow African country, the South Africa, has not only severed diplomatic tie with Israel over the identified atrocities it perpetrates causing global conflicts but also, it’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to pressure the African Union to designate Israel as a Terrorist State.
