Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, defects to APC
By IBRAHIM KANOMA, Gusau
The Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Dauda Lawal, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was contained in a press statement issued in Gusau, the state capital, and signed by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Alhaji Nuhu Anka.
According to the statement, the governor’s decision followed careful consideration and consultations with political stakeholders and supporters across the state.
The statement explained that the move was taken in the overriding interest of stability, progress, and sustainable development in Zamfara State.
It noted that prolonged internal crises, leadership disagreements, and unresolved structural challenges within the PDP at both national and state levels had created uncertainty that could affect effective governance and the delivery of democratic dividends.
Governor Lawal emphasized that his primary responsibility remains ensuring peace, security, and development in Zamfara State. He said aligning with the APC would provide greater unity, stability, and improved cooperation with the Federal Government for the benefit of the people.
The final deliberation leading to the decision reportedly took place at the Government House in Gusau under the coordination of the Deputy Governor, alongside senior government officials and key political stakeholders.
The governor expressed appreciation to members and supporters of the PDP for their support over the years but noted that current political realities made the move necessary in the interest of good governance.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening unity, improving security, and accelerating development in Zamfara State through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government.
The state government also called on citizens, political leaders, and party supporters to remain calm and peaceful as the state enters a new political phase aimed at promoting unity, stability, and development.
