Minister commissions N1b library complex at Federal University Gusau

He explained that the cost of the project rose above N1 billion due to the prevailing inflationary trend, which led to a continuous increase in the prices of construction materials.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has commissioned a library complex valued at over N1 billion at the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Zamfara State.
The commissioning ceremony, performed on behalf of of the Minister by Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor MG Abubakar, was held on February 3, 2026.
Speaking at the event, Professor Abubakar said the newly completed library has the capacity to accommodate about 1,500 students at a time.
He explained that the cost of the project rose above N1 billion due to the prevailing inflationary trend, which led to a continuous increase in the prices of construction materials.
According to him, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) provided the required financial intervention that made the completion of the project possible.
The Minister emphasized the critical role of libraries in the academic environment, particularly in universities, and called on students and staff to make proper use of the facility. He noted that the library complex would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to meet modern academic and research needs, serving as both a learning and research centre.
In addition to the library complex, other projects commissioned at the university include an agricultural theatre lecture hall and an extension of the science department.
